SIP Wall Panel Cutaway

structural insulated panels

Structural Insulated Panels provide the ideal solution for those clients who want to create an airtight building with exceptional levels of thermal insulation. SIP panels are the ideal wall choice for achieving all levels of the Code For Sustainable Homes. Because of their superior strength, SIP homes are constructed using less timber than is required for a traditional timber frame. This results in an external envelope with few thermal bridges. Minimal thermal bridges combined with high quality polyurethane core results in very low U values in comparison with other forms of construction. SIP panels are assembled using adhesives and sealants to glue the components together. This results in a very airtight structure. Because of the way they are assembled SIP homes are able to achieve their required air tightness prior to wall finishing`s being fixed. SIP panels are suitable for walls as well as roof structures and are ideally suited to projects with room in the roof design. SIP panels are made from Orientated Strand Board (OSB) facing boards with a CFC free/ODP zero closed cell polyurethane core.

BuildaKit SIPs form part of a system that is quick and easy to erect, is supplied with comprehensive detailed drawings and assembly instructions and is available either as a supply and erect package or supply only. This panel is available in a range of thicknesses and is supplied in 1200mm wide modules up to 6500mm long. This product is supplied as standard with all internal partition walls, i-joist floor systems and SIP, trussed or traditional roof framing. Alternatively this wall frame can be mixed with any of the products within our range.

Fire rating

When lined with 12.5mm gyproc wall board duplex (or similar), fixed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, SIP achieves 30mm fire resistance to BS 476: part 21. Greater fire resistance can be achieved if required. Please consult BuildaKit for further details.

Finishing

In two storey buildings this type of wall frame is finished using 12.5mm plasterboard. Boards can be skimmed prior to the application of a decorated finish or alternatively joints and nail holes can be taped and filled using a dry lining system.
