As the global community seeks eco-friendly building solutions, timber frame construction stands out as sustainable architecture. Timber frame boasts quality in predicable build program fabrication and speed of assembly on site, all whilst reducing the on-site build costs and time.
Precision Built
Most timber frame construction in the UK use prefabricated panels produced by specialist companies such as Buildakit. Factory production of these timber frame panels ensures that they are accurately manufactured to precise tolerances in a controlled factory environment rather than being constructed outside on a building site at the mercy of the weather. Buildakit have invested heavily in state of the art CNC and automated machinery ensuring precision manufacturing leaving less margin for error from onsite trades.
Speedy Construction
Timber frame unlike brick and block homes, allow you to start construction off-site, helping to speed up the process and helping you retain that competitive advantage. The timber frame panels are rapidly erected on site and, with a roof structure formed from trussed rafters (dependent on design) a weather-proof building can be created in just 3-4 days. This enables work to continue in sheltered conditions within the building whilst the outer cladding and roof finishes are applied. This not only saves time but also allows decoration to be carried out soon after completion of the construction without risk of cracking and deterioration of finishes. On site labour costs will be dramatically reduced as there’s less requirement of wet trades, who are often in short supply, and create a lot of mess on a building site. The long drying out period associated with ‘wet’ construction is reduced considerably.
Sustainable
Timber is recognised as the “only” renewable construction material and the softwoods used in timber frame are sourced from environmentally sustainable British and European forests. Responsibly sourced timber is an eco-friendly building material. Timber frame construction gives designers a great deal of flexibility in both layout and external appearance. High levels of thermal insulation are incorporated within the construction, reducing heating costs and conserving energy.
Less Site Waste
Timber frame construction produces less construction waste compared to traditional building methods. Offcuts and unused materials can often be recycled or repurposed for other projects, minimising the environmental impact associated with construction-related waste.
Eco-Friendly
Thermally efficient and environmentally friendly – Timber frame pre-fabricated panels are built to high standards of thermal insulation and air tightness achieving very low U-values as well as further reducing cold bridging if specification dictated. The whole structure requires less energy and is therefore cheaper to run. All the timber used in our structures are from FSC/PEFC certified sources meaning it is carbon neutral and a sustainable resource. Meaning timber frame is by far the most eco-friendly construction method. Timber Frame buildings can be extremely airtight, meaning that the amount of energy used to heat and a cool a room can be reduced
Flexibility of Design
Huge variety of designs from traditional to ultra-contemporary are possible. Timber frame lends itself well to spacious open plan design. Timber beams can be left exposed for special features and traditional character, as required. Bespoke U-values may also be specified to suit your own usage. Their light-weight structures and flexible design features allows them to suit a variety of projects.
