Buildakit UK Ltd awarded ‘BEST ECO HOME! at the 2020 Build it Awards.
The Build It Awards, in association with BuildStore, are the most prestigious recognitions of excellence in the UK self-build community. Normally they are presented at an exclusive, glittering ceremony in a top London hotel but this year everyone joined online for the virtual presentation.
Our clients Mr & Mrs Ejaz’s new home in Heaton West Yorkshire has been named BEST ECO HOME 2020. Buildakit are thrilled to hear we had been selected as the winner of this sought after award. Designed by Architect Phil Bixby of Constructive Individual in York our client chose to build a Passivhaus and was prepared to go to great lengths for the certification.
The roof structure is insulated using Buildakit`s roof cassette system insulated to a U-value of 0.1 W/m2K. External walls constructed in Buildakit’s Closed Panel Timber Frame System insulated to a U-value of 0.1W/m2k. The external envelope of the new home was insulated using a combination of mineral wool and PIR insulation boards to ensure that the new home remains comfortable in summer as well as warm in the winter.
A quality vapour control layer and seals to panel junctions were installed during the prefabrication of the frames to achieve the final air test of 0.5 air changes per hour – lower than required for Passivhaus certification.
Although we weren’t able to attend the Gala Dinner and accept the award in person this year, we’re definitely celebrating our achievement and proud of all the team at Buildakit for their efforts in making this possible.
